Why You Need An iPhone
Ever since the introduction of the Apple iPhone, there has been a huge public response to this product. Millions of people are proclaiming the wonders and beauty of this cell phone, iPod, calendar and mobile Internet device. However, the real question is, why do you need to have an iPhone? Of course, it seems that it is a great product because it streamlines your electronic productivity and allows you to have many products wrapped up into one, but what are the real perks to having an iPhone? The answer to this question really depends on who you ask. However, there are many actual reasons why the iPhone is a great purchase.
The first reason why having an iPhone is a good idea is because it helps to streamline your life. There is no denying that many of us live a very hectic and extremely busy life. We rarely have time to relax, nonetheless running around the house looking for your cell phone, iPod and PDA. However, when you have an iPhone you are actually getting all of these electronics, in one slim and sophisticated product. Many people who used to carry around two or three electronic devices are thrilled at how easy and convenient their iPhone actually is.
They no longer have to worry about running out of pocket space for your mobile devices, thus they are able to move throughout their life without having to worry about leaving their iPod at their friends house or their cell phone at the restaurant. With the iPhone, everything is packaged in a beautiful, and one-of-a-kind, device.
Another reason why you actually need an iPod is because you are able to have the world at your fingertips, literally. Unlike other cell phones, which allow you to look at a dumb-down version of the Internet, with the iPhone, you are actually surfing the net. If you have never been able to access the Internet while sitting in traffic, or looking up your friend’s MySpace profile on a whim, than you do not understand how great it is to be able to access the World Wide Web on a moments notice. This constant availability to information is a great feature, and once you have it you will never want to own an internet-less cell phone again.
Because so many of us have jobs across town, and friends that live on the other side of the city, we are always in our cars. But what happens when you are asked to go somewhere, and you don’t know where it’s at? Normally, you get on the Internet and MapQuest it, however, if you have an iPhone, than accurate directions to any destination is only a few ‘taps’ away. When you have an iPhone, than you automatically gain access to the powerful mapping service, Google Maps, and it is with this application you can find your local pizza joint, Starbucks or even Public Library. One of the coolest features is not the fact that you can get directions to this location, but you can also call them too.
Say you typed in “Starbucks,” you would then be shown the closest Starbucks to where you are currently at. You can then call them and place your order, or ask them questions about their coffee. Very rarely will you find a device that not only connects you to your world, but also brings you closer to it. With technology seemingly pushing the “world” further away, it is extremely refreshing to find a mobile device that connects you with those around you in such a dynamic way.
How To Send MMS Messages On iPhone
For those who have the Apple iPhone, it is probably quickly becoming your number one used electronic device, and why not? With such amazing features as internet access, music storage and the simplistic interface design, this product is literally taking the place of three major personal electronic devices. However, no matter what you use your iPhone for, it is still a cell phone, and with your cell phone there are several things that you expect it to do. One of the major reasons why so many people flocked towards the iPhone is because it promised to make text messaging extremely simple and convenient. And after using the iPhone for any length of time, it is easy to understand that text messaging with this cell phone is extremely easy and quick.
However, if you are used to being able to communicate to your friends and business partners through text and multimedia messages, or MMS, you may find yourself being extremely disappointed with the iPhone. The reason for this is because throughout all of the major improvements and superior features of the iPhone, it still lacks one simple feature. This feature is the ability to send MMS text messages, such as video and picture messaging. When many users first discovered the lack of this feature, there was an outcry because so many people rely on this means of communication to keep their contacts up-to-date on their current activities.
Even though the iPhone is an amazing piece of electronic equipment, not having the capabilities for sending MMS text messages is a major turn-off for so many potential customers and current ones as well. However, what if you were to find out that there was a way to get around this road block, and still send pictures of that funny looking dog to all your friends? Even though you can’t send a MMS text message, there is a way to still send pictures to your friend’s cell phones, without the means of text messaging. Most cell phones that have been made within recent years now come with e-mail capabilities, whether the users know this or not. It is by the means of e-mail that you are now able to send MMS messages to all of your friends.
It is extremely easy to do this with your iPhone, and requires very little time on your part. What you will do is “e-mail” the photos to your recipient; however, the person you are “e-mailing” doesn’t have to have e-mail support on their phone in order to receive your message. The only requirement is your recipient must be able to receive MMS messages. What you will do is find the photo you want to send on your iPhone and tap the send photo link, which is located on the bottom left hand side of your iPhone.
To send the MMS message, you will include the recipient’s phone number along with their carrier’s e-mail prefix. An example of this would be email@example.com for a T-mobile telephone number. This does require that you know who your recipient’s carrier is, however, all you have to do is ask your friend who their cell phone carrier is. After you have done this, you will be able to send the MMS message to them, and they will receive it like a MMS text message.
Below are the Email Prefixes for the major cell phone carriers: Verizon, vzpix.com; AT&T/Cingular, mms.att.com; T-Mobile, tmomail.net; Sprint/Nextel, messaging.sprintpcs.com; Virgin Mobile, vmobl.net; Amp’d Mobile, vzwpix.com; Alltel, message.alltel.com
Verizon Voyager: The Iphone Killer?
Verizon Wireless on Wednesday have introduced four hot new mobile phones for the 2007 holiday season, in ther sincere hopes that one of the four is desirable enough to shift the attention away from Apple’s iPhone.
The Verizon Voyager, made by LG sports a large external touch screen and opens up to reveal a keypad.
Attracting the most attention about the Voyager, is that it resembles the iPhone in several distinct ways. The Voyager is equipped a external touch screen that slides open to reveal a full QWERTY keypad. This gives users a choice on how they access the phone’s features, according to Verizon Wireless.
The keyboard is one advantage the Voyager has over the iPhone’s touch-screen-only design. In addition, Verizon Wireless’ has a fast 3G data network that the Voyager will use to access the Internet. The iPhone doesn’t employ 3G technology. Instead, it uses AT&T Edge data network, slower alternative.
The Shortcut Menu icons that display on the Voyager’s touch screen and the other set of icons at the bottom of the screen bear a astonishing likeness to the iPhone.
The Voyager also comes with an array of multimedia capabilities that include an HTML Web browser; Verizon Wireless’ V Cast mobile TV, video, and the URGE music service; MP3 playback ability, as well as WMA, and AAC files.
For more media and file storage, the Voyager has a removable MicroSD memory slot that can hold up to 8 Gbytes of memory.
“The Apple iPhone shook things up. If you look closely at the iPhone, it’s just an ordinary phone in an extraordinary package,” stated Jeff Kagan, a wireless and telecom industry analyst.
“That’s what this Verizon Wireless phone is doing. It is competing with the iPhone in this segment of the cell phone marketplace. It is Verizon’s answer to AT&T’s and Apple’s iPhone. I fully expect Sprint, T-Mobile, and a variety of other carriers — large and small — to come out with their version.”
Verizon Wireless’ season lineup also includes the Venus by LG, the Juke by Samsung, and the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 by Research In Motion.
Verizon Wireless has not yet let the buying public know when the Voyager will be available for, but industry analysts are expecting the Voyager to be in stores before Thanksgiving.
iPhones on eBay
Can you buy an iPhone on eBay? Yes, you can. However, there are important things to watch out for if you want to buy iPhones on eBay. With eBay it is always caveat emptor – buyer beware. This is true when you are looking to purchase iPhones on eBay as well. If you take measures to be sure that you know what you are buying, then you can get a really great deal on an iPhone. However, if you are not careful, you will be disappointed and possibly out of a lot of money. This is what you need to be aware of when buying iPhones on eBay.
First, know what you are buying and if you are not sure ask the seller before you bid. Some things to look out for are conflicting information between the title and the extended description. For example there was a listing for an unlocked 16 GB iPhone. That is what the title said. In the description is stated very clearly that this phone is locked but then went on to say that they are using it with T-Mobile, so it is clearly unlocked. The best way to resolve issues like this is to send the seller an email and ask for clarification. Save this email and the response you get so that if you are the winning bidder you have recourse if the iPhone is not as described.
Know the difference between unlocked and locked. Unlocked means that the firmware has been hacked and now you can insert any chip that will work on ST&T or T-Mobile’s networks. If you use T-Mobile you will lose the visual voice mail, which is an AT&T exclusive feature. In the US the iPhone will work only on cell phone networks AT&T and T-Mobile. This has nothing to do with the chip and everything to do with the wiring. The iPhone will only work on the radio frequencies that AT&T and T-Mobile provide. The terms “unlocked” and “new, unopened box” are incompatible. You have to open up the box and hack into the firmware in order to unlock the iPhone. Apple does not ship unlocked iPhones. In order to hack into the iPhone you must open the box, and hook the iPhone up to a computer. This is hardly unopened. Locked means that the firmware that Apple shipped the phone with is intact and untouched. These phones will only activate and work on the AT&T network. However, a locked phone has no issues or troubles with any firmware upgrades whereas an unlocked phone must be careful when updating to be sure they do not re-lock the iPhone.
Another thing to look out for when buying iPhones on eBay is to know if the phone is refurbished, new, or used. A refurbished iPhone is one that Apple (hopefully) has taken from not working properly to a like new state. This is a great way to get an inexpensive iPhone. However, an ethical seller will clearly state that this is a refurbished item. Les scrupulous sellers may not disclose this. If unsure, ask. New and used are self-explanatory.
Be alerted to the fact that there are phones that are similar in appearance to the iPhone but they are not iPhones. On eBay, you will see phones called A88, iPhone, PDA, cell phone… These are not Apple iPhones, they are iPhone look alike. Make sure that the manufacturer of any iPhone you purchase is Apple and not CECT.
Finally make sure that you are aware of the sellers return policies and only pay through PayPal using a credit card or pay directly with a credit card. Never pay with cash, checks, Western Union, wire transfers or money orders. This way if you are sold a fraudulent item, you have recourse through your credit card company or PayPal. Buyers who do not take credit cards or PayPal are questionable so once again remember caveat emptor, buyer beware.
eBay tries to make their venue a safe place to purchase items. An educated consumer stands the best chance of getting a good deal. Before you buy iPhones on eBay do a little research to be sure you are getting exactly what you are looking for.
The Lesser Known Backend Features Of The iPhone 5 & 4G Compatibility
If you’re an iPhone enthusiast, you can probably trot out the major improvements over the iPhone 4 without having to even think about it. We all know that it’s going to boast a larger screen, and we’re all buzzing with excitement about the 4G capabilities (where supported). And yes, it has a sleeker and lighter build with a spanking new A6 chip and iOS6 powering it all.
However, lets now look at some of the lesser talked about features that iPhone 5 delivers and get some terminology in perspective.
What Exactly Is 4G Compatibility? 4G delivers faster mobile browsing, and iPhone 5 will support it. In fact, browsing speeds for 4G are expected to far exceed 3G, and Apple’s 4G inclusion to become one of the few phones who support it will be easy reading for iPhone lovers.
Keep in mind though, that not all networks can currently deliver 4G using their existing technologies. This does mean that in some countries like the UK, while you may have bought your spanking new iPhone 5, you may not actually be able to use the 4G feature if your mobile provider isn’t yet able to deliver it.
The frequencies are the key here, with the iPhone 5 using the 1800MHz frequency for 4G – because there are no worldwide standards set, different mobile companies operate on different frequencies and this can create problems if you happen to be on a network that uses a different frequency. For example, in the UK, Orange and T-Mobile both employ the 1800MHz frequency while O2 and Vodafone do not. Similar issues have cropped up in the USA too.
Lightning Dock Connector – The iPhone 5 has a new and easier process for plugging in the phone, via the “lightning dock connector” – it’s located at the bottom of the phone, it’s tiny and the plug works whichever way up (or down) you insert it. Unfortunately, it does mean that any existing docking bays or speaker docks you currently own will need to be replaced.
Advanced Retina Display – Apple describes its new Retina Display as panoramic, with 44% greater color saturation than the iPhone 4. The iPhone 5 also has improved touch technology – while the iPhone 4 had 2 layers, with the iPhone 5 the pixels and touch sensors have been brought together into a thinner, single layer. It all equates to a far cleaner and crisper iPhone experience.
New SIM Card – To try and make the phone smaller and lighter, Apple has replaced the old micro-SIM card with the new and tinier nano-SIM. You might be able to get the SIM exchanged for no extra cost over the counter at your local Apple store.
Pricing – The iPhone 5 will be launched at $649 (16GB), $749 (32 GB) and $849 (64GB). In the UK the pricing will be £529 (16GB), £599 (32 GB) and £699 (64GB). The launch date is set for 21 September 2012. The pre orders and expected sales for the iPhone 5 have been exceptionally strong.
Apple iPhone To Launch In The UK
Excitement is building with just over a week to wait until the launch of the Apple iPhone in the UK. O2 have signed a deal with Apple which guarantees the network exclusive rights to provide contract deals for the iPhone and will surely produce a huge surge in customers. Other retailers such as The Carphone Warehouse are already providing customers with a preview of the handset price and O2 tariff options.
The Apple iPhone looks fantastic. If fact it is looks and works so good that Apple has decided to base future iPod designs on the iPhone. The touch screen interface is revolutionary in the world of mobile phones. Although it has been done before on other mobile phones and PDA’s, it has never been quite in the same style or manner that the iPhone offers. The Apple iPhone brings all the capabilities you would expect from a top of the range iPod including music and video, a 3.5-inch widescreen display, an 8GB flash drive and allows you to connect to your iTunes library. The battery life is far better than a normal mobile phone and allows up to 8 hours talk time. WiFi and GPRS connectivity allow for fast email and Internet browsing within the simple and easy to use Safari browser.
But the Apple iPhone is more about the experience. Apple has spent a lot of time getting their user interface just right and the result is sublime. For starters the iPhone automatically recognises whether you are holding and viewing the phone horizontally or vertically and adjusts the screen accordingly. The touch screen does not only respond to simple button touches but also to finger movements. For example to scroll through your contacts or play lists you simply slide your finger across the screen and the iPhone responds as a computer software program would when you use the scroll bar. There are also certain finger actions which allow you to zoom in and out when viewing web pages or photos. Even the keypad lock is operated by sliding your finger across the phone to prevent you from mistakingly using the iPhone’s touch screen buttons. There is one single traditional button at the bottom of the iPhone which allows you to quickly return to the mail menu.
The Apple iPhone only includes a 2 megapixel camera which is far behind the current technology supplied through other mobile phone manufacturers. Surprisingly there is no option to capture video through the iPhone camera which, when you consider that Apple products focus a lot on allowing users to watch video, seems very peculiar. This gives you the feeling that the camera was a last minute add-on and was not entirely thought through properly.
The iPhone breaks the mold and has created a huge jump in mobile phone user interface displays which other mobile phone manufacturers must be scurrying around to try and catch up with Apple. Although there are currently some other fantastic phones on the market, such as the Nokia N95 which offers greater technology, the Apple iPhone is about to become the best selling mobile phone of the year, partly though the hype it has received but mainly because it is such a fantastic revolutionary product.
